There are different schools of thought about which foods will most effectively alkalize the body. Dr. Young calculates the acid/alkaline value of foods based on the "ash" residue left after foods are metabolized, and he does *not* recommend most sweet fruits.
His dietary guidelines are fairly straightforward. An ideal meal includes:
-- 75% vegetables, primarily green and raw (a salad, "raw" soup or lightly steamed veggies is the ideal centerpiece for your meal)
-- 25% whole, natural carbs -OR- protein (not both)
...with super hydration (with alkaline water) between meals.
Since his Science is well-researched and well-documented, and lots of folks have benefited from his guidelines, his is the approach I've been using.
