Re: Hi Autumn!

Hi Autumn,

Your post made me laugh with your obvious experience, wisdom, and humor (sometimes lacking among people who practice macrobiotics).

Yes, George Ohsawa says the (yellow) burnt rice on the bottom of the pot is the best part because the grain has fully blossomed or thoroughly cooked. The reality is that it is burned rice, just as you say. Although some people think burned toast or burned English Muffins are a delicacy (they usually like their cigarettes and coffee to go with it).

For others asking about an Ohsawa Pot -- the Ohsawa Pot is a ceramic pot that fits inside the pressure cooker. With it there will be no burned rice, because the rice does not rest directly on the bottom of the pot. Nevertheless, the rice is still cooked under pressure (and this is an every day staple food). That is a lot of pressure cooked food. Over time a person acts pressured. How do we feel when we say we are "under pressure". Many YANG macros get angry at the slightest provocation. There is a lot of stubborness, rigidity, (lack of flexibility), "need to be right" attitudes, hostility, irritation, (lack of humor), tension, and HARDNESS in the macrobiotic community.
