Conversation Jesus had with John John 17, verses 15-17
There is a interesting conversation Jesus had with Peter in John 17, verses 15-17, in which He is asking Peter a strange question. Peter do you LOVETH me? Peter says YES (I am paraphrasing here) then Jesus ask him agan and Peter affirms YES, Then Jesus ask him a third time and Peter once again says YES BUT the third time Peter is GRIEVED, why is that? well if you will take a concordance and look up the word LOVEST in all three of those verses you will find something interesting, you will find that Jesus is asking Peter (who has been with Jesus for going on 3 1/2 years and loves the Lord with all his heart, or so he thought) if he AGAPE (#25 in Strongs which means the Divine Love of God, God's essense) Peter answers with a yes but the word LOVE that he affirms to is Phileo which means to treat affectionately or kindly, to welcome, befriend Jesus ask him the second time using Agape Peter affirms yes with Phileo (# 5368 in Strongs) BUT the third time Jesus ask Peter if he PHILEO's and by that shows Peter that HE DOES NOT LOVE HIM WITH THE LOVE REQUIRED
Now you would think that after being with Jesus for all that time that somehow Peter would have the Love required wouldn't you? But he didn't and it took that to show Peter what he was missing, the same with the rich young ruler. He was only LACKING ONE THING.
Remember 1 John 3:1
1 John
3:1
Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.
The LOVE used there is AGAPE. This is a different love type it is the essence of God i.e. God is LOVE!
15 So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
16 He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
We are to OBTAIN salvation not just believe we have it (believe is an interesting word, follow it to its root meaning in a concordance and you will find that it means OBEY! OBEY WHAT? the command of Jesus Christ to walk the narrow way to find life its not at the beginning of the narrow way and its with much tribulation and anquish that we obtain it.
We are to search the scriptures, and put the pieces of the puzzle together until we have figured it out i.e. line upon line, precept upon precept, study to show thyself approved, and when you do you will find that there is only one way to receive or have bestowed upon you the AGAPE LOVE OF GOD, and that is to walk the narrow way to find life who is Jesus Christ who is at the end of the narrow way and will come to you AND HE WILL MANIFEST HIMSELF TO YOU!
Joh 14:21
He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
MANIFEST is #1718 in Strongs and it means
to manifest, exhibit to view
to show one's self, come to view, appear, be manifest
We are to literaly SEE Christ (not with our eyes standing front of us but in our spirit man
I know this is nothing that you have head before, but I think it bears checking out, I mean really checking out and not just flicking off because it is so radical. Remember what Peter said that in the last days the WAY OF TRUTH WOULD BE EVIL SPOKEN OF and trust me this doctrine is hated. But the 'FEW' that have walked the narrow way and have seen and heard Christ can attest that it is true and it is real and it is deadly if you ignore it and flick it off as nonsense just becuase it doesn't line up with our puny man thoughts, my ways or not your ways and my thoughts or not your thoughts God says.
2Pe 2:2
And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
