Re: Health Insurance??
I agree with you trapper, it is a racket.
My aunt, who is high-raw vegan, hadn't tapped into her insurance AT ALL in 10+ years, received notification that her insurance was going up by $60 dollars a month! A healthy person with a great track record who has been paying in for so many years, now they need to pay MORE? How could that be seen as fair? So she dropped them and switched.
I don't have a job right now. I am too old to be covered as a dependant through my parents. I haven't ever paid any money into social security. I don't intend on receiving many of the things that insurance could potentially cover, either. Sure, accidents and surgery are things I would probably want if the occasion should warrant, but overall I don't plan on going to the doctor, taking prescription drugs, having chronic diseases and their ensuing torture treatments, etc.
I had heard that there are insurance "alternatives" out there where only super-healthy people with certain lifestyles are allowed to enroll, the money is payed into a big pot in a different way than what happens in regular insurance. I would like to know if anyone is aware of these options.
I like your idea of paying yourself (saving the premium amounts up). Or perhaps getting selective insurance (if they offer it) such as accident expenses coverage only. For now I just need to go the traditional route and get some sort of insurance, though.
