Croup (barking cough) in 5-year old

My grandson is having barking cough for 3 days now, and we don't know any remedies, but take him into the bathroom with running hot water, so that he can breathe in humid air to ease his breathing.

Please, maybe there is something else we can do? Any ideas are greatly appreciated.
