What is the alternative for hyperthyroid other than nuking the gland?

I have had hyperthyroid since last year, and my doctor suggests me to nuke/remove the thyroid gland. I have asked several people who had this procedure done, but they all said they regret that they'd done that. I wonder if there is any other alternatives or natural ways to cure the disease without nuking my thyroid gland.
