I've been mulling this one over...
Since I read it this article this afternoon.
The obvious implication is not to take aspirin, or at least not for a fever.
Does this apply to other things such as Tylenol - anything that reduces fever artificially? Probably.
I suppose this means that maintaining or increasing a fever is good. So I suppose exercise has a beneficial effect as it raises body temperature, so its effects on a healthy body would probably lessen the chance of coming down with a virus in the first place.
Saunas and hot baths should be good! I wonder if people who use a sauna at least once a week have a statistically lower chance of coming down with something, or having a fatality, etc.
And then just drinking hot beverages, staying toasty warm in a bed with lots of covers, etc.
I suppose that if a fever goes TOO high (not sure of the numbers - 104/105F?) then it should be carefully watched and the fever should not be encouraged, or manually cooled off some.
I myself have never been one to take aspirin. The occasional tylenol for a strong headache which is rare in itself, 1-2x a year. If I come down with something I do hot liquids and staying at home, which apparently is the right thing to do!
Thoughts?
