If you wanna get over it you're diong exactly the right thing.
By relating to people and just talking about it the suffering becomes less and less (I hope so.)
If you find your thoughts drifting back to him remember the bad points, not the good. This will help you to distance yourself from him.
I find myself rembering people fondly and wondering why we fell out about such and such a thing or why i was dumped or why this and why that and in the end it's pretty pointless. Memories tend to keep the good and lose the bad which is part of the problem i think.
If you believe in God then try and treat it as a test, that will strengthen you and just make you a stronger peerson and more able to deal with this kind of stuff if it happens again.
