Re: Shelley, ? re: kinked or twisted colon
when something gets stuck somewhere in the colon, it really does mess things up! if you have one hard stool followed by soft stools NOTHING MOVES!!! until you get rid of the hard stool. Yeesh! At that point, the best thing to do is an oil concoction enema. That means 1/2 cup of sesame oil mixed in with about 2 cups water and retained for 10 minutes. You can also buy glyerin suppository tabs, but they don't get up HIGH enough and really only work if the obstruction is quite near the rectum.
It's importnat to stop eating until the obstruction is dealt with. Adding more fiber into the mess just causes ballooning that is very difficult to reshape. So a liquid diet is important.
Once the obstruction is dealt with, eating things like Kichadi (I found mung beans at Ralph's!) that are slowly cooked and spiced with pungent spices, or vegetable soups, or cleansing carrot salad, or applesauce/stewed fruits, in VERY small amounts frequently throughout the day (3-5 very small meals a day) will help to reshape and gently cleanse the colon. Add castor oil packs, massage, stretching, walking, squatting to eliminate, and a very gentle laxative like prune juice or Triphala and a tablespoon of olive, flax, or Ghee taken 3x daily, completes the protocol for straightening out the colon. Do this for 3-5 days, then stop and switch back to a mostly liquid diet and do some toning/astringent therapy with the cleansing drink and aloe vera juice.
There's a post on prolapsed colon - a link is in the Bowel Management notes at the end of the post. Just look for the word Hemorrhoids- that the post. :)
Hope that helps! :)
