Re: ROLLED OATS, not cooked, IS THIS A RAW FOOD?

Hi there... Just in case you haven't found an answer to your question about raw oats, here is a quote from Nomi Shannon's "Raw Gourmet" on the topic:

"Finding raw oats can be a challenge. Apparently, whole raw oats turn rancid quite quickly, so the companies that supply it are steaming the oats after harvest. The euphimism they use is "stabilizing". This is not a good thing, because steam reaches 212 degrees F (100 degrees C) and will destroy all the enzymes. Ask your suppliers, but don't be surprised if they don't really know that this is happening. You can be fairly sure that any oats in a grocery or health food store have been treated in this manner. "

She then goes on to list some reputable sources for raw grains in the back of her book, but if you want an up to date list of some suppliers, you can check out her website: www.rawgourmet.com .

Hope that helps!

Blessings, bomo*
