Re: Ordering Probiotics online

In general I completely agree with JV about probiotics, including refrigerated probiotics, doing OK without cooling for several days. My Metagenics probiotic I once used mentions on the label that no refrigeration for up to a week will not affect activity. But where I live (Southern California), summer temperatures above 100F are not uncommon. I've concluded that shipment of refrigerated probiotics during such times of the year simply won't guarantee a viable probiotic by the time it's delivered. In Fall, Winter, and early Spring, no problem. But a few days transit in a UPS/FedEx truck in August might be akin to baking a probiotic in a very low temp oven. For now I'm sticking to store-bought refrigerated probiotics, at least during the hot months. The same would apply if the probiotics ORIGINATE from a hot climate, so a shipment from Los Angeles could be affected even if it's being delivered to Alaska.
