Re: The Arcane Library (Response to kruppaclassy from previous lengthy thread)
I see what you are speaking about now! The striving you refer to is the obsessed attempt to learn all things (religious and spiritual) to the exclusion of all else, including God. It's the person who attends the bible college over and over and over only to loss their faith in the process of "learning" everything.
I agree. Each person's path is full of many things, and many twists, turns, boulders, and steps. Each one is yet another lesson that takes us further, and closer, to the Father. Each lesson increases our work (also spoken of as being our purpose by many). As our work becomes more mature, so do we. All that time spent in bible college, over and over and over, takes us away from the true lessons that the Lord Himself is teaching us.
It's rather like I do my own bible study. The Lord leads me to certain passages, usually along a certain theme. As I come to understand the message He is teaching that passages I come across change. But I am staying in the New Testament, where my husband is in the old. He is learning the lessons from the Isrealites numerous woes, and I am learning what it means to minister to those in need of Christ's love. (something that I'm clueless about, but am doing nonetheless.) I would be passing into that "arcane library" if I were to try and go beyond what the Lord wants me to be reading.
Hmm, finding a word other then striving would be an interesting search. One that says more fully what is actually meant. That might prove to be one rather difficult search!! :)
God bless!
