Re: How we know...faith OR know FOR SURE?
Words are subjective to each person (the way they're used by each one of us). To me, faith means trust and confidence[in God, whether I understand or even know His plans]). MY faith involves surrendering (without knowing FULLY, I know enough to have faith in Him because I've seen the EFFECTS of His creative work). But, very often, the word "faith" is used to refer to a particular belief in Him ('a'[particular brand of] FAITH) . Words can have a conceptual meaning, a contextual meaning and a philosophical meaning in everyday usage, but, in reference to God and His manifestations, we have to focus on a spiritual meaning.
Knowing is not faith, and faith is not knowing (for sure).
When people say "There is a first time for everything" but then also ask me to prove that God exists, it seems so normal to me to say simply that "He [God] IS the first time for everything". My personal feeling (understanding) is that, if a person DEPENDS on proof, they (at the time) lack the ability to have faith (because faith must be borne out of LOVE). In a very true sense, having the ABILITY to have faith in something (anything) means NOT BEING SURE. Proof is in observation. Proof of 'gravity' does not require us to KNOW the scientific details of it, yet we have FAITH that it exists because we observe the effects of it. Faith that alternative medicine works does not require that we each also know the scientific details. That is why I don't believe that Epistomology can establish true faith.
