Re: Twelve Step Work

Richard its true and it got better
Guys would say “Bill, come and tell us your burning bush story, but please stop going on and on about your idea for the traditions" A turning point in A.A. with Dr. Silkworth Ebby T brought Bill to the oxford group. Bill continued to get drunk then they Bill to Town Hospitial where Dr Silkworth was chief of staff. He was the one who knew a lot about the malady of the disease, He was the one naming it a disease, Alcoholism as a manifestation of allergy, before Bill even got there. Later in the years Sikworth told Bill he had to stop talking about his hot and white flashes and start talking about the malady of the disease, Bill did and A.A. started tripling in size. Sounds like Bill was battered by everybody.
The difference in the drunks that a sponsor brought to a hospital, back then, was they were not coherent and did not know where they were. I myself has not had the opportunity to deal with a incoherent drunk that needed someone to sponsor them, but they did on a daily bases.

Do you remember Sam Shoemaker?
Rev Samual Shoemaker of the Calvary church ? Where the oxford group resided, There is a lots of difference there to this day. Have you noticed that no A.A. groups are welcome in any Calvary church today? Check it out.
When Bill told Shoemaker about the LSD experiments they were in, including Father Dowling and Bills wife, a difference was believed to occurred. Later there was an apology letter from shoemaker but not a forgiveness. The difference between religion and spirituality was taking place. I can see the great events that came out of peoples spirit back then they didn’t have the authority ship of a sponsor that is now of today.
Do you find if funny that a sponsor thinks there job is to administer the steps to another?
Have you read the forward to the second addition of the Big Book where they disclose the principles of the message ? It was found that in the steps not everyone had a spiritual awakning- a spiritual experience yes – This is the same time when they changed the 12th step to read Spiritual Awaking instead of spiritual experience.
