Re: Twelve Step Work
Good. I had the Sister Ignatia story straight.
It seems that sponsorship goes back a long way.
I was reading, “Pass it on” the other day and it seems that Bill had a devil of a time getting the 12 traditions adopted by the fellowship.
Guys would say “Bill, come and tell us your burning bush story, but please stop going on and on about your idea for the traditions". He didn’t. And after years of single-minded determination, they were indeed adopted. Not unanimously by the way.
It seems we drunks are slow to change. That’s a good thing, and a bad thing at the same time.
There is one part of your post that gave me pause, and I quote, ” not the type of drunk back then”. I think drunks are drunks. They are the same animal as they were in 1935.
In the early days, the fellowship seemed to specialize in low bottom drunks. But if your two guys live long enough, and nothing changes in their lives, things will get a lot worse for them in time. That may be the only thing we can guarantee them. Today’s high bottom drunk is tomorrows low bottom drunk. It was that way 400 years ago, and I suspect it will be that way 400 years from now. We are more alike than we are different.
Do you remember Sam Shoemaker?
