You should have both Adaware AND Spybot S & D.  Both are free.  I would also download Microsoft's free spyware program.  You can find it on their website.  They also have an online "malware" checker.

For your particular problem, you may need Hijackthis, as suggested by others.  If all of that fails, Sypware Doctor is an excellent program, but this one costs $30.  It can be worth it, though, if none of these other options work.

Once you have regained control over your computer, running these programs daily (or auto schedule for those that allow this) should keep these kinds of problems at bay.
