Hi maxo,

I'll do my best to help you with this.
The first thing to note, is that a current regulating diode is quite unique, in that it can easily limit current without affecting voltage.
Which is great for Colloidal Silver making, and can greatly simplify things, as you yourself are experiencing now.

With that said, a resistor on the other hand, can affect both the current and the voltage depending on how it is wired-up.
Having said that, and before offering any more advice, would I be correct in assuming that the potentiometer you're using is a 1 Meg Ohm potentiometer?
