Re: Yeast infection from too many probiotics?

Probiotics can cause yeast overgrowth in certain individuals. I am proof of that. I have Chronic Mucotaneous Candidaisis. Before I was diagnosed via immunology testing, I would take probiotics and get sick. Diarrhea, bloating, gas, nausea, burning, redness, itching everywhere, skin rash called(Pityrosporum Foliculitis). My immune system will not try and fight off any yeast, molds or mildews. The only treatment is antifungal therapy. Anyone curious about this immune system function test can request it from their immunologist. The test is called, Antigen & Mitogen T cell Proliferation Panel. It tests 4-5 different things, Candida being one of them. I was good on all of the other tests BUT where that test, tested for Candida. No wonder I had problems all these years with constant yeast. Yeast in my hooha, thrush in my mouth, breakout and redness of my skin(Pityrosporum), itching, etc. before I found out my disorder, I itched from head to toe, prompting me to see my GP. She gave me pills for itching(Atarax) and a corticosteroid shot. All because 3 Benedyrll weren't working. My scalp even itched. Went to an amazing allergist who practices immunology. Was allergy tested, and I was allergic to some things, but not that bad. Then he did a pleathora of immune testing. Only one that came back bad was the Candida one. Live and learn. I'm glad I found out so I can stay away from Antibiotics and probiotics. If I have to absolutely have an antibiotic, they now prescribe a weeks worth of Diflucan or longer.

And don't anyone dare say it was the way I was raised. I was raised by a health nut, who is WAY too concerned about probiotics, msg, aspartame, etc. I was force fed probiotics as a child, obtained from the store called Apple A Day. It was a liquid strawberry probiotic we kept in the fridge. That is what probably screwed up my immune system. They are finding out that probiotics can OVER activate your immune system. Just think of what that does to a child's developing immune system!

So eat healthy, exercise, take a multi-vitamin, get tested for any vitamin deficiencies and correct those. Otherwise if you're still having problems with candida type issues, get tested by a good immunologist, and ask for the above test.

Let's not spread things we know nothing of. You can kill people doing such. You're not a doctor or naturopath. You haven't read up, done the research or studies. Why don't we tell everyone of the side effects of probiotics. Why, because it's a money making industry! How many millions are spent on probiotics a year? Dannon touts it in Activia. They've been sued for it. There is nothing wrong with yogurt, kefir, or fermented foods. But it should be used as it normally would, in a normal diet. Don't go over board, nothing works better in large quantities. You eat or take it how it should be taken.
