Re: Ketosis and Potassium Loss

Hi, I have done water only fasting twice and had this problem both times at about the day 4 or 5 stage.

The first time I found information suggesting hypokalamia and started taking a teaspoon of table salt and KCl salt in water each day. The condition rapidly went away so I concluded this was the probably cause. I remained in total acaloric fasting for 10 days.

This being my first attempt at fasting I had been drinking excessively during the first few days to quell hunger and this may have led to demineralisation.

The second time I had similar problems but KCl did not resolve the problem bring into question whether this was indeed the true cause the first time.

I ended fasting after 5 days due to the continual discomfort in thigh muscles and persistent general lethargy which was preventing me from doing a simple DIY repainting job.

I am starting a new fast, which I have been hesitant to start because of this problem.

I have not eaten any fish or meat for about a week but have not done a rigorous pre-fast dietary preparation.

Apart from this thread I have found very little information on this problem.
