The answer is obvious. She had a hysterectomy which started her menapause...ten or more years earlier than she would have had it. The stress of the divorce must also played a role but her abrupt hormonal changes surely made it more difficult to cope with the stress. The result is sudden and very noticeable aging.
. Her self mutilation should be a cautionary tale for all women who consider elective hysterectomy without a serious medical reason.
