Re: How to get started with Iodine

Iodine works best when it's combined together with all the other nutrients, the vitamins and minerals we need to live.

Notably, B6 has a special relationship with iodine. B6 is also associated with lowering the risks for many types of cancers, including kidney cancer:

I had several breast cysts appear over the last four years. I did the Iodine protocol, which did help, but only when I was also taking B6. i didn't make the connection until I started taking a B-100 (extended release) with 100mg of B6, which is a lot of B6. In two months, my lumps completely disappeared. Even the one I had scar tissue from a biopsy - it's all gone now. Pretty incredible.

One theory is that B6 helps metabolize Iodine and gets it where it needs to go.

You could just take B6 and iodine, but I suggest you take every vitamin. B6 requires B2 for activation. B6 and Iodine may also increase your metabolism, increase serotonin and melatonin, and increase your requirement for all the other nutrients, everything from vitamin A,C, D and E to niacin.

Let's not forget the minerals too! Selenium is needed for iodine regulation. Zinc works closely with B6.

Seeds like sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds are some of the best sources for B6 and have tons of other cool things in them, like magnesium, and tryptophan for helping to make serotonin.

I buy most of my stuff online. I bought Lugol's 2% liquid iodine which has about 3,000mcg iodine per drop, and also the Iodoral tablets which have 12,500mcg iodine per tablet. But to start, you might want to get a lower concentration of iodine, with just 150mcg per drop. Everyone's experience with iodine is unique and depends on their biochemistry and stores of other nutrients. Start very slow. Just 150mcg to start. Keep the dose the same for at least a week so you can see how you feel with it. It can lower thyroid function for some people, but your body will adjust if you give it time. Just be patient and build slowly.

I take Bronson B100 extended release complex which I got from Bronson Vitamins online. I also take Alive multivitamin - there are several kinds to choose from, and they are very complete with good amounts of everything. And then I take extra magnesium and vitamin C.
