To be fair, I'm really not sure what use a 6 digit benchtop meter would provide given that most people would seek to use a common multimeter. Which is why I chose to limit my observations to low-end meters.
That said based on my observations the prognosis looks good in that most anyone could grab a meter and gain some form of information as to what frequency a particular devices is putting out. Which isn't to say scope accuracy, though surely enough to conclude whether their device warrants further inquiry or that they're in the vicinity of what they've payed for in terms of manufacture claims etc.
