Re: 30 Day Water Fast Complete
BGuffb,
I agree with both Chiron and DL's answers below.
I do feel that this subject about refeeding and post fast diet has been debated for a long time and remains controversial.
However, we should rely on tried and trusted methods of breaking a fast by those experienced practitioners today and those who are gone before us.
Most prevalent method is to break a fast with high water content fruits and vegetables.
This is what Dr. Furhman said in one of lectures and in his book.....
"It is very important that the reintroduction of food after an extended fast begin very gradually. The body needs a period of time to stimulate the production of digestive enzymes that has been temporarily stopped by the fast. Start with half an Orange or a slice of watermelon."
Meats are heavy proteins and very hard on our kidneys. So after a fast, especially a long fast, one should very gradually increase their food intake for at least a few weeks till good enzymes kick in, then introduce heavy proteins from meats, fish, chicken etc. Same goes for those who eat nuts after a long fast.
The other reason is that you want to eat nutrient dense foods, which generally are plant based foods.
Hope this helps.
