One thing that might help the mind cravings is not watching TV. The ads make extremely unhealthy food seem so desireable. Can't imagine it while on a fast. Just watching gets the salivary glads working overtime.
Consider structuring your time, so you don't have "munchie moments". One friend took up knitting, so she didn't feel compelled to eat while sitting and reading. We all got wonderful artistic scarves for Christmas last year.
Personally, I go for a walk with the dog while the family eats dinner. I go for a swim at lunch time to get away from the scents of food in my office. I take a bath (epsom salt, or ginger) in the evening. I call it "my time".
