Re: Natural Hygiene Is The ONLY Thing That Makes Sense
Such a brilliant post. Every time I find it I want to share it, because it seems to be the only thing that is really 'needed', in among all the seeking after a 'cure' for this or that.
Even with "Curezone", whose mandate is Educating, instead of medicating, there is a fundamental fragmentation, in that there are so many forums. . . It is really all so simple. In essence, Natural Hygiene is IT.
In that vein, here's a really good site with fermented food ideas.
Cultured foods are imperative, when the effects of medications are rampant. They not only provide the good flora, to help the body restore its innate balance, they INCREASE the nutritional content of the food that is cultured.
I keep coming back to how feeling well is all about getting plenty of delicious cultured food. My favourite thing this winter has been cilantro chutney that I make with lots of cilantro, jalapeno, (go easy on the seedy cores, save them to blend into acv. for a 'hot sauce') grated ginger, coconut, apple cider vinegar, a little GOOD salt, a little real sweeter, like a date or two, or some honey or jaggery, or evaporated cane juice (ie. good sugar) Best is to use whole food for the sweet.
You can blend or food process it. I chopped it all by hand for awhile, when my stick blender bloke. There is no recipe, I make it different each time, depending on what I have, etc. The rule of thumb is
The most cilantro,
less jalapeno,
less coconut,
least ginger
etc.
Then you can let it sit for a day or two, to culture. I usually eat it up too quickly. This site looks good for true cultured foods. kimchi, etc. I'm pretty sure when we crave pickles, (pickles in the dead of winter?) we're really craving the probiotics of the homemade kind. . . what we might have made before the age of "canning" and pasteurizing.
