Herbal Remedies For Gout Sufferers.
What is Gout?
Gout is very common painful form of arthritis.
Arthritis is simply a inflammation or intense pain in a joint.
How Does Gout Occur?
Uric acid (urate) is a normal substance to have in the bloodstream. It comes from the breakdown of substances called purines. About 14% of the uric acid in the bloodstream comes from the breakdown of purines in food that is eaten, but 86% of uric acid comes from the breakdown of purines which occur naturally in cells in the body. When levels of uric acid begin to build up, the kidneys usually remove the excess and it is passed out of the body in urine.
Gout occurs when people have higher than normal levels of uric acid in their blood. The majority of people have high levels of uric acid because their kidneys are not able to remove it effectively.
Causes of Gout:
Factors that can affect the level of uric acid in the blood:
Diuretics (water tablets), low-dose aspirin and ciclosporin
These tablets reduce the kidneys’ ability to get rid of uric acid.
Diet and alcohol
Excessive eating of foods high in purines and/or drinking of alcohol (particularly beer) can cause gout in some cases.
Kidney disease
Kidney disease can mean that the kidneys cannot get rid of uric acid as well as they should.
Being overweight or obese
Being overweight can make the kidneys less effective at removing uric acid.
High blood pressure and type 2 diabetes
These conditions tend to be associated with higher levels of uric acid, and they both make the kidneys less able to get rid of uric acid effective.
Chronic blood disorders
Uric acid produced by the breakdown of cells may be too much for the kidneys to get rid of effectively in disorders where the body produces too many blood cells.
Genetic factors
Some people may have inherited genes that mean their kidneys are less efficient at removing uric acid, even though the kidneys are normal and healthy in every other way. This is one of the most common causes of gout, and is particularly likely when several family members are affected by gout.
Best Herbal Treatments For Gout?
Turmeric
Turmeric’s benefits are largely pinned to curcumin, a potent antioxidant that dramatically reduces inflammation. Curcumin inhibits the growth of tumor cells in a variety of cancers and improves insulin resistance in subjects with altered metabolic function.
Cayenne
Cayenne contains a range of flavonoids and carotenoids – antioxidants that scavenge free radicals to protect against the cellular damage that leads to inflammation and disease.
Ginger
Ginger attacks inflammation through the action of gingerols, shogaols, and paradols. The potent antioxidant 6-gingerol inhibits production of the free radical peroxynitrite that causes inflammation and pain. (Overgrowth of gut bacteria is linked with excessive peroxynitrite.) As a group these ginger compounds act like non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) (e.g., ibuprofen, Aleve, Celebrex) used widely in this country to relieve
Arthritis pain.
Cinnamon
Cinnamon has a host of compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that can lessen the likelihood of cellular damage and chronic disease.Cinnamaldehyde inhibits the NF-kappaB proteins, transcription factors for pro-inflammatory genes and genes involved in immune, growth, and cell death responses, and it prevents blood platelets from clumping – all of which protect against heart disease, among other diseases of inflammation.
Other known natural remedies to lower uric acid in the bloodstream is Cherries, Fresh Lemon Juice & Alfalfa Sprouts. Always no matter what condition you suffer with keep yourself well hydrated with water daily.
