Licorice root - fatter face??

Hello everyone...

So my dr had me start licorce root. I have been on it for a month. Don't really feel a difference.

One odd thing is I feel like my face "looks" fatter. My face by my lips looks padded and sagging like jowels. I didn't gain any weight. If anything I lost weight and am considered underweight for my height.

I read that licorice root could swell up your face but not sure if this is b/c it's supposed to have some estrogenic effect or b/c it helps to keep cortisol in your body and like cushinig disease, cortisol causes a moon face. I read licorice root can supress potassium which leaves you with higher sodium and water retention. my potassium dropped from last labs to low normal. Aside from marks left by socks I really don't see or think I have water retention.

Since starting licorice last month, I felt more stressed or unable to deal with stress. All the muscles in my body were tense including my jaw. I literally had problems chewing or yawning b/c my jaw was clenched tight all the time.

While I'd like to say this is my eureka moment and guess that the root of my anxiety, Depression and insomnia is high cortisol, my dr also started me on DIM for estrogen dominance,which I don't think I really have, at the same time she started me on licorice root. I heard that estrogen has a dampening effect on cortisol. So maybe by lowering estrogen it had the effect of over working my adrenals by making my adrenaline work harder to compensate for perceived lower cortisol.

Anybody with any insight, please let me know. I would be very appreciative!!
