Re: Coconut Oil Fasting equal Magic Bullet!?!

I think your constipation might have resulted from the fact that when you switched to eating only coconut oil, your body switched from glucose metabolism to fat metabolism to produce energy. Fat metabolism is also called ketosis and can often lead to constipation as a side effect. There is nothing wrong with being in a state of ketosis, and in fact there are many studies linking ketosis with improved brain functioning, stabilizing blood glucose as well as mood. So, my suggestion would be to not give up on coconut oil, and to look into natural ways you can alleviate your constipation. The nausea might have to do with the fact that the coconut oil killed off the bad bacteria in your gut (as coco oil is an anti-bacterial) and when these bacteria die off they produce endotoxins which must be eliminated through the bowels. If your bowels aren't moving (as a side effect of being in a state of ketosis), you will naturally feel nauseous from the die-off of the bad bacteria.

One way to maybe alleviate the constipation could be to eat a teaspoon of butter along with the coco oil. Reason being that fats require bile for digestion, and bile is a laxative. The only fat that does not require bile is coconut oil! So, if the only fat you are consuming is coco oil, your liver wont produce bile, which might add to the constipation problem. So, adding butter might help. This is just a theory, btw.
