I grieve over this too!
God's wrath is shown throughout the Bible. And God is the same, yesterday, and forever. God hates sin, period! And that is why in the most loving act possible, he made a way for his people to not have to face that wrath.
But if you can get rid of the idea of God's wrath, you can get rid of the idea of guilt, and that feels good to many. But all are guilty, that is the reality, whether people want to face that reality or not. Thankfully though, it's not all hopeless for the guilty, if they will trust in Christ alone to pardon their guilt and be their righteousness. Otherwise, they will face the wrath of God, sooner or later, whether they believed in it or not.

Romans 1:18

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

John 3:36

Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.

Romans 3:23

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
