Re: Does diet matter with parasites?
shotsee: "there is no question in my mind that a healthy immune system [as Dr. Tilden wrote] could and would clear-out all parasites."
This is pure madness and clearly Dr. Tilden not a specialist in this field.
parasites are one step ahead of the human immune system. They adapted to it since evolution and they have a very strong natural selection. It's so complex that parasitologists don't even know if a
parasite control a host immune system or an immune system control a parasite.
Human immune system by default not adapted to get rid of any parasite.
parasite devolved very advanced methods to survive in a host. From inhibition of digestive enzymes, massive reproduction rate, mutations, using your immune system against you, diverting your immune response, etc.
The main goal with any helminth infection for your immune system is to keep you alive for as long as possible and repair like crazy. Now at times your immune system do attack like during a
parasite cycle but it's more aimed at control not to cure you.
Like it or not but in the end the human immune system knows it's a losing battle with them. So it adapted to live with an enemy instead of fighting it.
