Tonsil stones, you can search on youtube for some decent videos of how folk use the back of their toothbrushes to coax them out. It's a candida/ parasite overgrowth thing, and the body calcifies the leftover dead buggers to neutralize them, but they can rot there in the tonsils. (Thus the smell!)

Tonsiliths look to me like they'd be more associated with what's in the blood/intercellular tissue though.
