Re: Vitamin C

Vitamin C in its most basic form is ascorbate, what thats bound to will alter its makeup slightly. For example ascorbic acid is a bit tangy and acidic. Ester C is ascorbate bound to calcium and then there are things like sodium ascorbate which is bound to sodium.

Personally high calcium levels are becoming more commonly accepted as an indicator of cardiovascular health risk and most people already get enough calcium. Combine that with the fact that ideally one should consume as much ascorbate as they can tolerate means that if using ester C you can easily take in much more calcium than is desired and cause problems.

Bioflavinoids are fine but not needed. All thats needed is ascorbate.

Keep in mind oral vit C has poor absorb-ability and short half life, you should ideally be taking it many times throughout the day.

Personally I take about 5 grams ascorbic acid granules in a little water 5-7 times a day and have a bottle of 1g caps in the bathroom so if I happen to get up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom I pop a couple then as well.
