Re: Not sure If I'm sold on megadosing iodine

Here is how I look at it, the studies and info collected by Dr. Abraham support the need for 6-12mg elemental iodide/iodine a a day.

What solid scientific data does Mercola base his opinion on? In my Mercola is no expert, just a doc who does some fancy marketing and call in real experts. The problem Mercola has in what I have seen him post is he simply references studies done by others. He seems to be largely basing his opinion on an article in American Journal of Clinical Nutrition which cited those taking more than 400mcg started to develop hypothyroidism.

These are the same kind of studies that most modern medicine reads and latches on to but those who have taken the time to take a closer look at the thyroid as whole know it doesnt function in a vacuum. While Iodine is an essential component of the thyroid hormones it can not be fully utilized without an assortment of other nutrients, primarily selenium, which like iodine, people are often deficient in.

Propronents of iodine therapy tought the importance of having the additional supplemental nutrients and even state very clearly supplemention iodine without them will cause problems.
