I have been hypothyroid for years but it seemed under control and my goiter had even diminished in size. Then about two a half months ago I began pulling oil every morning for 20 minutes with coconut oil. After a while I began to lose weight uncontrollably. Now I am severely hyperthyroid. Somewhere along the line I was frantically researching everything I ate to try to figure out what was making me hyperthyroid. I found an article oline that said coconut oil can increase thyroid function by as much as 20%. I do not have the citation. Coconut oil cleaned the mouth and breath wonderfully and also seemed to draw phlegm down from the sinuses. But under the circumstances I had no choice but to switch to another oil.... olive. It is not nearly as pleasurable but it does an okay job. I am not as religious about it as I was with the coconut. I cannot prove that coconut oil pushed or helped push me into hypothroidism, but the possibility seems worth considering.
