My brother has lung cancer...

My brother has small cell lung cancer. He is 75 years old. They still have other tests to do: brain scan, bone scan, etc., but they know that it is in both lungs and in the lymph nodes of the lungs. The doctor told him if he does nothing he would live probably 3 or 4 months and that if he does chemo that he could live up to a year or 18 months. His daughter and granddaughter are both nurses and don't have as much information as those of us on this forum against chemo and radiation. One of his sons is interested in alternative healing, but when I told him a lot of the details about the incurables program, he didn't think it could be done without him being in a facility that makes sure everything gets done. I'm quite sure that there is nobody that we know that would be able to help him do the program.

However, I am still against his doing chemo. I have tried to get him a few papers that tell statements made by different doctors who speak out against it. I was trying to advise him on things to ask the doctor when he went for the last test results...things like, "Would you have this therapy if you were in my situation". I don't know if he did ask that or if he can even remember what he wants to ask. I ended up later telling him to not make his judgment b/c of anything I had said b/c I didn't want him to blame me if he didn't do chemo and then was thinking he might have gotten better if he had not followed my advice.

Does anyone think that doing chemo is any better than doing nothing? The doctor also said that there wouldn't be too much vomiting but just nausea. I don't believe that.

I would like to get opinions also on whether chemo helps breast cancer. The reason I'm asking: Every time my sister and I discuss chemo, she points out that our niece who was under 50 was cured of Breast Cancer with chemo AND that her friend (late 50's) was also cured with chemo. I don't have an answer for that but I have read so much that there are false positives and false negatives that I wonder if they even sometimes treat 'patients' with chemo that never had cancer in the first place. Does anyone have statistics on this subject? I looked for info on that and couldn't find much.
