Re: Those Chem Trails, by MH
"OF THE PEOPLE I HAVE PERSONALLY TALKED TO, REFUSE TO LEARN, THEY DO NOT WANT TO KNOW!!!!"
This not wanting to know phenom is a by product of Congnitive Dissonance. CD is a situation that results when a person's real life experience comes in conflict with a previously established & engrained beleif. Starting out of the womb, people spend long years honing and establishing their beliefs; most of us knowingly and unknowingly have a lot of helpers - namely society, helping us to mold and form our beliefs into a particular shape. Especially by the time they get to be middle-aged adults, a lot of people adopt the idea "I'm an adult now, my beliefs are firmly established, so I can kick back, stop learning new beliefs and let my established beliefs drive my life on auto-pilot"
The problem arises when every-day occurances start getting in the way of established beliefs, mostly because they occur in contradiction to what is already believed. At the moment this occurs, there is a sensation of confusion that goes on inside one's mind. The confusion is basically the result of part of the mind saying "hey!, mind, I hate to inform you of this, but I have some new information just in, I just saw something happen that is in complete contradiction to a firmly held belief we've sorta been operating on for quite a while now.... what do we do?" For many people, another part of the brain speaks up and says "well, I understand your confusion, don't panic, whadya say we try to forget you saw what you saw, and we'll try to go about life pretending it never happened". If one has a well-working conscience, this helps one to resist the urge from that other part of the mind and instead takes the new information they've experienced first hand and uses it to revise, alter or discard as necessary their previous beliefs. This latter process is often referred to as "learning a truth". The former process is often referred to as "burrying, ignorring, avoiding and/or hiding from a truth"
