I would second your suggestion of ALKALIZING is correct,
& goes hand-in-glove with the famous statement of Dr. Pauling
that at the root of every single human disease (= body not at ease or balance/equilibrium) is a mineral deficiency.
That is because every enzyme's operation has in its molecular reaction flowchart at least one mineral!

Each of the minerals is alkalizing by its very electron shell structure/alignment, & is why for example things like whey protein powder, from any milk, is very alkalizing as well as it boosts glutathione production.

No blood test anywhere will show up a gross deficiency of even the more common minerals like magnesium until the patient is very ill from other causes.

Magnesium alone, one mineral, has over 300 documented metabolic uses in the body.
But there are then all the other trace minerals to consider.

The short answer is to go on a daily regimen of whey protein powder (just stay away from any that have the toxic disgusting artificial sweeteners added, like Acesulfame-K, nutrasweet/aspartame/, etc---regular sugar, or unsweetened, or stevia only!). Cost will be about $1 per 30g scoop, which can be added to just water, or milk or juice. No limit
to how many scoops/day. Bodybuilders gobble this stuff up.

AND/OR you can go on a good fulvic/humic mineral supplement which will take up to 90-120 days to replenish/rebalance the body's optimum stores. BUT if that's the problem, it will be felt a lot sooner than that as increasing wellness.
See Dr. Joel Wallach's site as examples of what there is to buy, or maybe your local health food store carries a line from somebody.

2006 book claims to trace each mineral to the codons:
http://www.amazon.com/Minerals-Genetic-Code-Exposition-Biological/dp/09113118...

Here is a longish site of info on what each mineral does in the body:
http://www.realtime.net/anr/minerals.html#magnesium

BTW, in the interim, can't you get a biopsy done on one of those "cysts", since they are so blatantly visible.
What is your doc's major problem?
