Re: What are typical ketone levels during an extended fast?

Day 22. Although true hunger has not returned and I have no real desire to eat anything, I have decided to terminate this fast beginning tomorrow, completing it after 22 days. The reason is that the metabolic panel report has alerted me to some dangers involved (thanks also to Chrisb1 for a timely warning). My fast is not under any medical supervision. One of the dangers is bone loss. The report indicates a high level of calcium in the blood. This means that the acidity of the ketone bodies is leaching calcium from the bones. The constant acidity is also putting stress on the liver and kidneys (creatinine, eGFR and bilirubin are out of range). Since I have not noticed any significant improvement in peripheral neuropathy, the main goal of this fast, I do not expect that continuing this fast for another week would make much difference. Then, too, my fat reserves are depleted and my appearance in the mirror has become skeletal. This has been an uneventful fast, thanks in part to giving up caffeine (for good) and all other stimulants. Nothing but pure water.
