I get tingling whenever I try to push or do too much.

According to Dr. Lam - quote: "tingling can be caused by many reasons. when the autonomic nervous system is not well balanced internally, this can lead to neurotransmitter dysregulation and tingling happens. this means that the underlying healing is not complete."

Maybe taking the ALA was too stimulating or set your autonomic nervous system off balance.
