Totally agree diet is first and probably the foundation of healing protocol.

Regarding supplements - i believe its a question of type of infections, state of GI and timing. It's obvious that not everything works for everybody.
That's why I think your advice with test first might bring valuable information. That plus doctor/practititoner experience and acces to information could be great asset in your recovery endevour.

Examples:all of these were recommended to me for LGS like doctors recommend pills but were NOK:
- broth proved to be absolutely great for "solving" leaky gut - but not the fat one or containing too much gelatine - so light version :) was OK. in some cases like viruses or some protozoa the fat and gelatine one could be problematic.
- glutamine, slippery elm... i've had bad reactions and worsten the symptoms - did not know why neither my practitioner (lack of access to information). i've read somewhere (cant remember where due to AF sorry :) that glutamine NOK for some bacterial infections or even candida. cause they can feed on it plus if pancreatic insufficiency is present broth is not properly digested so more problem...
- probiotics the same - great help when you know what infection or intolerance do one have so be able to avoid diary one if the case.
- Colostrum - same story

so i guess knowing as much as possible about type of infections (characteristics of pathogens) tolerance state of GI etc could help to better target or prioritize the protocol for leaky gut.
I remember you previously said not two patient are alike :) i believe its true also here
