Re: Arguments for not eating meat

Careful with promoting Ann Louise Gittleman . As much as all of you are sick of me warning about under-eating, there is good reason I warn about it.

In that book by Gittleman warning about copper/zinc imbalance in low-fat diets, which are diets that either are or close to being vegetarian or vegan, she mentions the symptoms of anxiety, insomnia, skin problems, frequent colds, and roller-coaster emotions being a problem with these diets. Well those symptoms are also common symptoms of under-eating and the biggest problem with low-fat diets that I've found was that people weren't eating enough on them because since low-fat diets are a lot lower in calories, you have to eat quite a bit more in volume on these diets making it really easy to under-eat on.

In another one of Gittleman's books, Fat Flush Diet, she promotes that you STARVE yourself by eating at or below your BMR level until desired weight loss is achieved and it's even criticized by the diet review site:

Fat Flush – Detox and Weight Loss
Phase 1 – 2 weeks: This is a restrictive phase of between 1100-1200 calories per day.
Phase 2 – Ongoing: Here the calorie allowance is lifted – to 1200-1500 calories.
Phase 3 – The maintenance phase: Essentially a weight maintenance phase, with a caloric intake of 1500 calories or over.

Fat Flush Pros and Cons
The Down side
One criticism is that the calorie level in Phase 1 may be too low for some people (particularly men), and the lower calorie levels could have the affect of slowing down metabolism rather than speeding it up.

An active male and female is recommended getting at least 3,000 and 2,500 calories per day respectively. Your BMR level is how many calories you need to sustain your health if you are lying in bed all day doing nothing. No wonder people break down physically, mentally, and emotionally when they try to be active with only getting enough calories to sustain themselves being in bed all day!

Everyone's heard over and over again that calorie-restriction diets always fail and in the end the person usually packs on even more weight after thrashing their bodies by trying to starve themselves and they get even more disappointed that now they weigh even more and then that usually causes despair and then a vicious cycle of trying calorie-restriction diets even more strict and longer or go on ridiculously long and unhealthy water fasts.

If this is Gittleman's mindset, it's probably not too far fetched to believe she wasn't eating enough when she was on and preaching low-fat diets.

Last but not least, Gittleman looks to be a quack:

"Claims of detoxification's legitimacy and promotion of good health have been questioned by many Western doctors. Gittleman's Fat Flush program was among those called "not only ludicrous but tantamount to fraud" by Dr. Peter Pressman in a New York Times article about detox diets.[3] Judith Stern, Sc.D, RD, has called the Fat Flush Plan "pseudoscience" that promises everything, but is "a fantasy".[4]

Gittleman's recent book Zapped has been met with skepticism by mainstream reviewers for incorporating non-scientific and pseudo-scientific concepts to assert the danger of electromagnetic fields, as well as presenting evidence in a biased manner.[5][6]

She regularly employs the title of "Dr. Ann Louise Gittleman " [7] in reference to her PhD in nutrition earned from the unaccredited Clayton College of Natural Health. She has not earned a doctorate from an accredited university."

Remember that AF is not a medically accepted condition and it's been shown that "AF" symptoms are the same as long-term starvation symptoms:
