Re: Probiotics/fermented foods

James, lots of good questions here. I think a combination of probiotics, fermented foods AND enzymes are a good choice. But in saying that, folks need to pay good attention to the kinds of dietary fibers they eat too, especially the soluble and insoluble fibers. The enzymes serve a very important role in allowing a more complete breakdown of carbs, proteins and fats. This in turn allows a well balanced levels of short chained fatty acids to occur in the colon, and favors the correct level of pH to support a health flora. As you see, it is NOT just about "swallowing a bunch of probiotics" to recolonize properly.

I like using lactobacillus species and bifidobacterium, but also like sacc.boul. and other types of beneficials. There is NO need to take "fifty different strains" and it is a fallacy that you need trillions of cfus (colony forming units) when you take in a good probiotic. You need to eat the right foods and have the right kind of digestive power if you want good levels of friendlies.

Eat fermented foods, take probiotics regularly AND have the enzymes. I've been making my own product range in New Zealand for some time now, and am currently collaborating with an expert friend in USA to make three outstanding candida formulations. Stay tuned.
