No doubt its bad to be selenium-deficient while supplementing iodine, but, its bad to be selenium-deficient even if not supplementing iodine. Folks shouldn't need to be supplementing with Iodine to learn that they also need selenium, but sometimes it works out that way. My recollection is that Se has a role in neutralizing excess superoxide ion or other oxy radicals.
