The studies do have merit. People who take Iodine supplements without also taking selenium are at a very high risk for thyroid problems.

As you can see in these studies, Iodine & selenium are co-dependent. Take one without the other and thyroid problems can be expected. This is one reason why iodine got such a bad rap. The thyroid can be a fussy little thing.
