I agree that breathing would do little in terms of long term development.
It just helps to slow the mind down in terms of anxiety and obsessive thoughts so it can follow the body.
It's one of those little add on things that make your life more wholesome if you make it a daily practice. Then it's easier to proceed with more advanced practices.

I'll look into this particular program that you are talking about too. What's their website?
