You'd be surprised how many fruitphobic people think fruit alone can get you fat. One hand had they complain fruitarians look anorexic, then on the other think fruit will get you fat when people try to convince them of the benefits of eating lots of fruit. Some people even think fruit causes pancreatic cancer!!!! So much misinformation about fruit and that's why I like this durianrider guy and his girlfriend Freelee because they debunk all the silliness.

My main question is sustenence. What happens when you get hungry? You just keep on eating bananas or mangos until you are full?

Yep! Eat until you're full. "Binge of fruit!" as durianrider jokes. For AF and certain other conditions, they recommend even more carbs and calories because the body needs the extra fuel for the extra stress load on the body. Think of it as your car has extra baggage loaded in it and the extra weight of it will now will cause you to need more fuel than before to reach the same distance.

What happens when you exercise hard and need something to rebuild your muscles?

Eat more to get more calories. If you look at all those "brotein" shakes and bars, they are high in calories and I personally think it's not the need for extra protein, but extra calories and good sleep. Animal products are very high in calories because they are loaded with fat and fat is 55% more calorie-dense than carbs or protein, so when athletes think eating more meat is helping them recover, they're not realizing they're also getting more calories.

What food do you eat to help take you out of food cravings?

Calories! calories! calories! If you start calorie-restricting, you'll crave more cooked and animal foods because animal foods are higher in calories and cooked foods are easier to digest since they've been cooked and broken down a bit and when your body is starving for calories, it wants the fastest way to get the maximum of calories stat.

Are the alterations to the diet that has helped you?

The way I'm eating now is as much fruit as I can eat all day and either a huge raw salad or cooked high-carb meals in the evening. I'd like to try Dr. Graham's all raw 80-10-10 version when spring arrives and the fruit selection gets better. I still eat small fish and egg whites occasionally. I eat more the Bonobo way than vegan personally. It's a personal choice in the end.

One thing I notice whatever way you eat is the fewer items combined, the easier to digest. You'll hear a lot of talk of "mono-meals" which that is eating one food at a time. When fixing salads or cooked meals, I try not to add more than 4-5 items in at a time. Another good example would be bread. Choose a brand that's just mainly one grain as opposed to the much harder to digest 9-grain. But sandwiches aren't very optimal because think how many ingredients there would be in it to make it even worthwhile to eat.

Do you frequently get more or less sick?

I haven't yet! I've only been eating high-carb/low-fat for a couple of months though. The more optimum diet, the more energy the body will have to fight off disease.

Do you have more mental clarity from this type of diet?

Absolutely! One of the most noticeable things. The brains preferred fuel is glucose from carbs that includes fruit. Almost all Paleo, Primal, Atkins dieters complain of diminished mental clarity, carb cravings, and needing stimulants. No wonder when you are "low carb."

Do you supplement with b12?

I do but more like just in case. There's a study that shows just as many meat eaters are low in B12 as vegans. I take Vit D too because the further away from the equator, the more sun you need and most people in North American are low in Vit D.

The amino acids brings up some questions. There are essential amino acids that the body is required to have.

A variety of plant foods will give you all the essential amino acids, BUT the key is you also have to be sure you eat enough food in general to get enough calories or your total protein profile will be lower. Protein-deficiency only comes with calorie-deficiency which is pretty wild and something I didn't know about before. I can meet 9 of the 10 essential and co-essential amino acids per day with eating 33 bananas alone. Only methionine is at about 55% of RDA and I could get that to 100% by adding only 6 brazil nuts. The interesting thing about methionine is that it's not recommended to get too much high than it's recommended RDA.

Methionine, however, does have several side effects associated with its use. These side effects include muscle paralysis, hair loss, depression, schizophrenia, Parkinson's disease, liver deterioration and impaired growth. The drug's most common side effects include nausea, vomiting, drowsiness and mild allergic reactions. Also, patients with cancer and coronary artery disease should not take methionine.

The effects of consuming an excessive amount of L-methionine are not well known, but the Institute of Medicine states that you should avoid regularly consuming more than your daily need of the amino acid.
