Re: Adrenal fatigue and effexor.

Some good info. by shared Onwards. Thanks.

As for the SSRI you started, look at it as a good thing for now.

I started on Zoloft, after my total hysterectomy in 2000. I opted not to go on hormones. Big mistake. Within 2 weeks, I was hot flashing, sweating severely 24/7, anxiety through the roof, depression, nausia, migranes. Went to the doctor, as I was suicidal. Got on ZOloft (SSRI) and some estrogen. Had already been taking progesterone prior.

Those two little pills saved my life ! But, I should have weaned off the zoloft after a year or two and did not, as I felt so good on it. Plus my husband had a happy wife again and he did not want me to stop taking it.

But, as research now indicates, it does not last for ever and wear out and can even inhibit the normal function of the working of neurotransmittors and seratonin.

After 10 years of Zoloft, I weaned off and did get worse. But, have now been trying 5-HTP and Tryptophan ( via help through "Kelly's Saint Johns Work Forum>' I hope and pray it will help replenish seratonin and calm my anxiety.

I hope the antidepresant works well for you, it should, sometimes in starting, if one does not work, usually another will. Zoloft is the best one for anxiety. I was also on the lowest dose 25mg. Did not go along with the Dr. in upping the dose, as I felt good at 25mg.

WHen you do get to feeling better, don't use that as a scape goat, that you are all better. Work on you adrenals and health in general and get that strong, than after a year or two, try to do a very very slow taper off the SSRI. There are also forums for tapering off these meds for support.
Good luck. I can sympathize with you.
Paulette
