I think the latter is more likely: His wife is covering it up, which is a really awful mistake. If he had been suddenly murdered, I would imagine she would have been too devastated to have the presence of mind to be putting countless marketing messages on his FB page, much less deleting most questions and comments regarding whatever happened to cause his death.

The weird posturing makes it seem more likely that he had been ill for awhile and the death was not a total shock.
