I have no idea when you posted this or when this interesting subject between you and your friends took place, so I'm not sure you will even see this but I've been looking on the web for days for answers to questions like this (not specifically this question), but similar. It sounds like you and your friends study things like this which I find fascinating but also scary when a doctor can not enough identify the cause of my symptoms. I have been feeling extremely tired and have a strange sense of brain fog since something contributed to whatever I have started. I guess before I go into detail I should wait to see if I get a response first, so I will just tell you that I am searching for any help on what could be wrong with me and I believe it is related to some type of fungus or parasite.
