Re: Paleo Guy fasting re-feeding

I am a Crossfitter and Paleo person. I use Water Fasting as a way to detox and define my overall health. It fits perfect in the world of CrossFit and Paleo.

How do you re-feed and continue with Paleo?

First ... you juice for as many days as you fast. I enjoy juicing on grapefruit in the beginning, and then I move to strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and raspeberries for another week.

After my second week of refeeding(usually because I only fast 5-7 days) (back into CrossFit) I begin to introduce boiled eggs, lean baked chicken, and baked fishes, but I make them only part of one meal/day (usually lunch).

ETA: If you fast longer then 7 days your refeeding should be juice on the second week. Sorry for the confusion.

My Breakfast

Berries ... Grapefruit ... Almonds with Coconut milk (Almond Milk)

My lunch

Backed Fish/chicken with raw olives, raw tomatoes, almond oil, raw spinach, and grated ginger. I cook all my meat in a cast iron pan in order to get keep my iron levels good.

CrossFit 3-4x/week at 1600

My Dinner (Sometimes I do not do dinner) 1730

Fruit Salad or a veggie salad or I just eat a boiled egg. I do not combine these foods in one sitting.

There are two main things I learned that I cannot do on now after fasting. I cannot add salt to meals. For some reason my digestive tract and body do not do well with added salt. It is so sensitive now.

I just recently looked into food combining. I find it is helping with the way my energy stays high all day.

I eat all my fruits on an empty stomach, and do not introduce protein until it is digested. I am going to experiment some and see if my veggies should be treated the same.

As for now I find my protein (the nuts, milk, and fish) need to just be sparingly eaten. I find since the fast reset my digestive tract my body functions (even during CrossFIT workouts) best on the raw foods. It is hard to believe this, but once you accomplish a longterm fast and you reset yourself. You will never eat the same again.

The energy you get after your fast and into refeeding is amazing. Something you won't know until you experience it for yourself. You find your body thrives on mostly raw.

I love my nuts ... I also love my baked fish. I haven't had to give them up, and they are great compliments to my Paleo diet.

You just have to find things that work for you. Once you fast, what worked before will not work after, i.e. my salt issue. My body hates it when I give it too much salt, and it lets me know.

When I first started fasting. I did a couple days here, a week here, then I moved into two weeks, and now I am moving into several weeks. I am using fasting to detox and regain my youthful self. It works!!!!

Fasting isn't for the faint of heart ... in my opinion ... it is by far the most disciplined thing I have accomplished. I must be focused, disciplined, and without fear.
